Langtang Valley Trek is encircled by dramatic peaks like Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,345m), Gang Chhenpo (6,388m), Naya Kanga (5,846m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Kimsung (6,781m), and YansaTsenji (6,575m). The topography is distinct from subtropical to alpine forests. Starting for the lower part, you will be walking through varied rhododendron, bamboo, oak, bamboo, maple, pines forest, majestic waterfalls, rugged rock, streams, and snow-capped peaks all along the way. You will also pass through the beautiful Langtang National Park. This national park is the home of varied floras and faunas. If you are lucky, then you may encounter a Himalayan black bear, Himalayan Thar, or red panda during the trek.

Langtang Valley Trek 11 Days Itinerary will also pass through the Kyanjin Gompa, one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries. Kyanjin Gompa is also the name of the place named after this monastery. Despite being Nepal, Langtang Valley is mainly influenced by Tibetan culture and Tamang peoples. You will get to experience the mixed Nepalese and Tibetan cultures.

Langtang Valley Trek Route

The scenic and bumpy road from Kathmandu will take you to the Syabru Besi, taking 7-8 hours of drive. Although it may be good or bad, the drive is full of surprise but proves new experiences and memories. The road takes you to ridges, along with dazzling route with a panoramic view of the Himalayas in the distance. The next day we will trek to Lama Hotel. We will cross the Bhote Koshi River during the walk, which exudes Tibet and adds beauty to nature. We already entered Langtang National Park, and we cross through the subtropical forest, which is the home of multiple floras and faunas. The smell of beautiful woods and the beauty of nature will take away our tiredness and exhaustion during the walk. The trail from Lama Hotel to Mundu passes through forests, mountains, and beautiful indigenous villages. On the path, you will also witness yaks and the occasional sight of Mt. Langtang. Most of the villages and hotels are destroyed by the 2015 earthquake, so you will mostly see modern hotels and villages.

Today, you will ascend to Kyanjin Gompa through yak pastures to Kyanjin village. If you are fond of diverse cultures, hospitality then you may hike to Langshisha Kharka village. You will feel good hospitality, lifestyle as well as the mesmerizing view. As Kyanjin village is the acclimatization point, we will be hiking to Kyanjin RI to see a wide range of Langtang Himal ranges and glaciers. 

You can then trace back to Kathmandu from the same route. If you want to make your holiday longer, then explore different places missed out during ascending. After reaching Syabru Besi, you can then drive back to Kathmandu through the same adventurous trial.

 

Best Time to Trek Langtang Valley

Based on the consideration of many factors like temperature, climate, and scenic view, spring and autumn are the best seasons for Langtang Valley Trek.

Autumn lies in September to mid-December months, which provides us with a warm and moderate climate along with clear, beautiful skies and clean, fresh air. Thus, it is the best season for trekking to Langtang valley.

Spring that lies from March to May is considered the second-best season to trek to the Langtang region. The climate is warm and stable, the trail is paved with greenery, all types of wildflowers blossom cannot be overlooked.

You will experience hot in months from June to August as it is summer and monsoon season. And there is frequent rainfall which causes the trail to be wet and slippery, along with the problems of leeches, bugs, and earthworms. However, if you look at the bright sight, the surrounding is rain-washed, which offers clear views with many wildflowers flourishing in the forest.

The winter lies from December to February. We will not recommend trekking during this season as the temperature is freezing and the view is blocked by foggy weather. However, it is suitable for those trekkers who enjoy trekking in loneliness with extra adventure.

Langtang Valley Trek Difficulty

Langtang Valley Trek is not a challenging trek, and beginners can trek it easily. It falls in the moderate level when it comes to difficulty. This trek is fit for regular and novice trekkers with reasonable fitness. Solo trek to Langtang Valley is possible as it is not a restricted region or difficult trail. However, we recommend you not to do a solo trek if you are among novice trekkers. This trek takes you to an elevation of above 4000 meters; you are likely to have Altitude Sickness. This might make your trek challenging for you. 

Langtang Valley Trek Cost

The tranquil Langtang region is located on the Northside of Kathmandu. Because it is near the capital city of Kathmandu significantly reduces the Langtang trek cost. Thus, the trek to Langtang Valley is comparatively cheaper than other treks in Nepal.

We will take a bus from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Enjoy the picturesque view of the rural landscape of Nepal and pass through winding highways and several towns, forests, and farm fields. We will reach Syabrubesi after a tiring journey. Please make sure you are well-rested as we start our trek the following morning.

We will first cross the Bhote Koshi river and then the Gopcha river. We will then walk parallel to the Gopcha river. We will encounter terraced fields initially and then discover an incline that takes us through a forest trail. We will then cross the Langtang river and climb further up until we reach Lama Hotel. Enjoy the scenic view of this region.

On this day, we will climb up through the forest trail and will occasionally see the mountains of the Langtang ranges. We will climb further up and reach Ghora Tabela. We will then climb higher and reach the Nepal Army camp. We will cross few permanent settlements where herders bring their yaks to graze. We will then reach Mundu. This area was once a bustling town that was severely affected during the earthquake. Life has returned to normalcy in this region, and we will see many new houses here.

We start early in the morning, and we will come across huge yak pastures. The first stop for this day will be Muna, and then we will cross Singdun. As we ascend through the trail, we will come across narrow rocky paths, cross few wooden bridges, and then reach Kyanjin Gompa. You can explore the most famous gompas and also visit the cheese factory.

Kyanjin Gompa is located at an altitude of 3800 meters. We must rest and help our body keep up with external changes. You can go around the village and explore. Also, interact with the locals and have a better understanding of their lifestyle and culture. Ensure you are also appropriately rested to complete the remainder of the trek without any difficulties. Also, you have the option to head to Kyanjin Gompa, which is located at a staggering height of 4773 meters. Enjoy the 360-degree view from Kyanjin Ri. This is the highest point in the Langtang region that trekkers can get to.

We will now retrace our steps and make our way back to Lama Hotel. We will follow the Langtang River to the village of Mundu and eventually Ghora Tabela. We will then continue heading downhill until we reach Lama Hotel, where we will rest for the night.

    • To accomplish this trek, past hiking experience would be an advantage although no technical skills are necessary. Novice trekkers can do this trek but should be able to walk 5 to 6 hours a day at a fair pace with a light day pack.
