    Good to Know

    Annapurna Base Camp Trek Weather

What is the most satisfying time in a year to trek to Annapurna Base Camp? - it depends upon the experience you are watching to have. Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the many popular trek paths in the Nepal Himalayas. It is more moderate and full of natural resources than other high elevations treks in Nepal. The trek combines diverse terrain, tradition, and wildlife. Experience the close-up glance of Annapurna range, including Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri.

    September to November

By far, it is the most popular trekking season in the Annapurna region. Hikers gather in the region to feel the clean, fresh, and energized area after the monsoon period. In the lower part, the weather is generally mild, with a normal temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and night temperatures remaining above freezing. As you get higher in altitude, temperatures drop quite considerably.

In this month, views are generally crystal clear, rainfall is very low, and there are more sunny days during this period. The night sky is unusually good during this period, and you will be surprised to see a billion stars that appear every night in bright clarity!

    December to February

This is the coldest weather season in the Annapurna region. Depending on the altitude, daytime will be very cool, and night will drop below freezing. Tea houses may open during the cold winter period, and if you do decide to trek in this season, you will find a warm meal and a place to rest.

The winter period commonly consists of cloudy days that obscure views. However, there are frequently crystal clear days that are often more clear than mid-summer!

Towards the end of the winter, around March, you will start to see the dazzling images of rhododendrons as they begin to sprout around Ghorepani. These are not to be missed and decorate green hillsides with red, white, and pink sparks of colour.

    March to May

The colourful rhododendrons and warmer weather make trekkers attracted easily during this period. This is another popular trekking season, and the snow that bothered the route is all but dissolute on the lower parts.

April is a beautiful time for crystal clear views, especially when you blend them with the shining red hills of rhododendrons. The average daytime temperature at lower altitudes is around 10 degrees Celsius, whilst night is normally freezing.

    June to August

Mid-June sees the coming of the Monsoon period. We don’t recommend trekking in the monsoon season because southern parts get heavy rainfall. The trial will be slippery and uncomfortable to walk because of the muddy and leech trial.

Pokhara gets 800mm of rain per month during this period. Regions like Jomsom and Mapha get as little as 50 mm! You will meet a few trekkers who have the added benefit of observing all the beautiful flora species flower at this time which makes the trek particularly lovely.

Packing List for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Every trekking requires certain preparation of gears and types of equipment for the journey to make your trip more comfortable. It is recommended to carry the necessary and light things so that it will be easy while you are walking. The following belongings are recommended that should be brought, although we concede that our clients have their own decision for the clothing. FAQs

    • Q1. Where is Annapurna Base Camp?

Annapurna is located in Nepal along a 34-mile ridge just east of the Gandaki River. The Annapurna Sanctuary is a high glacial basin extending 40 km north of Pokhara.

    • We start our memorable ride to Nayapul via Pokhara which will be our trekking starting point. We then ascend to Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani Poon hill, Tadapani, then Chhomrong. As we trek further, we finally reach Annapurna Base Camp. After some pleasure in Pokhara, we will be reverting back to Kathmandu.

    • The legendary Annapurna Base Camp Trek is situated at an altitude of 4,130 m/13,550 ft.

    • By far September to November and March to May is the most popular trekking period in the Annapurna region. In this month views are generally crystal clear, rainfall is very low and there are more sunny days during this period.

    • Witness panoramic heaven of Annapurna Range, Mt. Gangapurna, Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Machhapuchhre, Tent Peak, Mt. Hiunchuli, and numerous others. Witness the absolute grace of derived landscapes as you hike through remote villages, dense forests, vast moorlands cut by the cascading rivers, and blue-hued peaks as they glow in the sunlight.

    • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
The entry fee for Nepalese is Rs.100 per person, for SAARC Rs.1,000 per person, and for other Nationals Rs.3,000 per person.

    • Organizing your own trek with guides and porters sound very expensive, but is actually a very affordable and safe way of trekking. We found the route is easy to follow and well-marked. But walking alone in such a difficult terrain may not be safe for you. If you are not a skilled trekker or are walking single a guide is a good idea. You will also get detailed information about nature, culture, and much other new information during the trek.

    • The daily gain in altitude during Annapurna Base Camp Trek is about 450 to 600 meters per day.

    • It takes 9 to 12 days to complete Annapurna Base Camp depending upon the mode of transportation and packages we offer.

    • The main local dish is dal bhat, rice, and lentils with some curry. It is sort of bottomless, when your plate is empty they come with extra rice if you are hungry and this is best for budget travelers. Some unique meals to try on this trek are Gurung bread, local tsampa porridge, various soups like Sherpa stew steaks, Momo, Tenduk, noodles, and thukpa.

    • Yes, you can. The Himalayan Odyssey offers you private and family tours. Please make sure your children have a walking experience.

    • Any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any prior experience. You must be moderately fit and prepared for long days. Trekking at higher altitudes is physically difficult than trekking in the lower areas. The fitter we are the more pleasant experience we will have during the trekking.

    • We suggest you consult the doctor. However, we advise you to bring simple medicines like Ibuprofen, Codeine, Paracetamol, Strepsils, anti-diarrhea tablets, and Diamox (for altitude sickness). If you are having a package tour then the company will provide you such basic medicines.
